The BACRS Research Ethics Committee (REC) is an independent multidisciplinary research ethics review body established under the Bangladesh Academy of Clinical Research Society to promote the ethical and responsible conduct of health, clinical, biomedical, public health, nutrition, behavioral and related research involving human participants.
The Committee reviews research proposals with particular attention to the scientific and ethical validity of the study, protection of research participants, informed consent, confidentiality, risk-benefit assessment, fair participant selection, protection of vulnerable populations, and compliance with applicable national and international ethical standards.
The REC operates according to documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintains an independent and transparent ethical review process.
Mandate
The Society's Memorandum of Association establishes the Committee "to review research protocols and issue ethical approval certificates in accordance with applicable national law, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements, and to ensure ethical compliance, transparency, and participant safety in all clinical research activities conducted under or affiliated with the Society".
Independence of ethical review
The REC makes ethical review decisions independently of investigators, sponsors and research funders. Financial, professional or personal conflicts of interest are disclosed and managed according to the Committee's SOP.
BACRS Research Ethics Committee operates under the governance of the Bangladesh Academy of Clinical Research Society. Ethical review is conducted in accordance with the policies and Standard Operating Procedures adopted by the Society as they are published on this site, with reference to applicable national and international ethical guidelines. References to BMRC guidelines, international ethical guidelines or other regulatory frameworks do not by themselves constitute endorsement, accreditation, registration or authorization by those organizations. Where research is subject to additional governmental, institutional, regulatory or sponsor requirements, investigators remain responsible for obtaining all applicable approvals before commencing the research.
