Ethical Review Procedure

Every application follows the same recorded workflow. The final review category is determined by the REC according to the submitted protocol and the applicable SOP.

  1. Online application – the applicant creates an account, completes the application and uploads documents.
  2. Administrative screening – the Secretariat checks completeness; missing documents are requested.
  3. Scientific / methodological review – the study design and methods are assessed.
  4. Ethics Secretariat screening and classification – the review category is assigned.
  5. Assignment of reviewers – reviewers declare any conflict of interest before opening the protocol.
  6. Ethical review – expedited or full committee review.
  7. Committee decision – recorded with reasons; a decision letter is issued for every decision.
  8. Outcome – Approved, Approved with conditions, Modifications required, Deferred or Not approved.

After final approval the system issues an Approval ID, a signed certificate with a QR code, and a public verification record. See the review categories and required documents.
