Adequate, understandable and voluntary informed consent is central to every approved study. Consent materials should cover:

  • voluntary participation and the purpose of the research
  • procedures and their duration
  • potential risks and potential benefits
  • alternatives, where applicable
  • confidentiality of information
  • the right to refuse participation and the right to withdraw at any time without penalty
  • contact information for questions and concerns
  • how consent will be documented

For studies in Bangladesh, a Bangla version of the information sheet and consent form should be provided where participants read Bangla. Downloadable English and Bangla templates are published in the resource library once approved by the Committee.
