The REC supports the following types of ethical review. The criteria for each are set by the Committee in its SOP; the final review category is determined by the REC according to the submitted protocol and the applicable SOP, not by the applicant.
The current list and criteria are shown below as configured by the Committee.
BACRS Research Ethics Committee operates under the governance of the Bangladesh Academy of Clinical Research Society. Ethical review is conducted in accordance with the policies and Standard Operating Procedures adopted by the Society as they are published on this site, with reference to applicable national and international ethical guidelines. References to BMRC guidelines, international ethical guidelines or other regulatory frameworks do not by themselves constitute endorsement, accreditation, registration or authorization by those organizations. Where research is subject to additional governmental, institutional, regulatory or sponsor requirements, investigators remain responsible for obtaining all applicable approvals before commencing the research.
Exempt / Not Requiring Full Ethical Review
Applies only where the Committee's written policy allows (for example, work that is not human-subject research).
Criteria to be configured by the REC in accordance with its approved policy and SOP. The final review category is always determined by the REC.
Expedited Review
For research meeting predefined low-risk criteria.

Full Committee Review
For research involving more than minimal risk or otherwise requiring full ethical review.

Continuing Review
Ongoing oversight of an approved study.

Amendment Review
Review of changes to an approved protocol.

Renewal
Renewal of an approval whose validity is ending.

Final / Closure Review
Review of the final report and closure of a study.
